Australia: New Senior Judge Administrator appointed

News of the IAJ

The Honourable Justice Glenn Martin AM has today been appointed as Senior Judge Administrator responsible for the administration of the Supreme Court’s Trial Division.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman congratulated Justice Martin on his appointment.

“Justice Martin brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served on the Supreme Court for almost 15 years, and with a career dedicated to upholding the values of our court system,” Minister Fentiman said.

“His Honour has led a diverse career, graduating from the University of Queensland in 1979 and being admitted as a barrister in our State’s Supreme Court as well as Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Solomon Islands.

“His Honour took silk in 1998 and was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2007.

“Notably, His Honour was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2013 for significant service to the law, in particular for his contributions to the Australian Bar Association and to the community of Queensland,” Ms Fentiman said.

“It is also worth noting His Honour’s role as President of the Australian Judicial Officers Association – a national representative body drawn from all levels of the Australian court system, dedicated to maintaining a strong and independent judiciary in our country.

“Justice Martin’s service in national legal organisations indicates the esteem in which His Honour is held, not only within the Queensland legal profession, but also across the country.

“It is heartening to see the wealth of experience, dedication and sharp intellect Justice Martin will bring to this additional position within Queensland’s justice system.”

Justice Martin will take up the role immediately, replacing the Honourable Justice Helen Bowskill, who was sworn in as Chief Justice this week.
