POLAND: strong message asking for our help and solidarity

News of the IAJ

Please find herinafter a message spread among all the IAJ members:

Dear Colleagues,

The Polish Judiciary is leaving a very difficult situation.

From our Polish Judges Association IUSTITIA and our esteemed Colleagues from Poland we receive a strong message asking for our help and solidarity.

The message is, in synthesis, the following one:

“The Parliamentary commission of justice and human rights rejected all the amendments of the opposition to the draft of the supreme Court law and voted it over. It is quite likely, that it could come into power by Friday. Therefore the situation needs quick reaction.

Attached materials about the current situation of judiciary in Poland. (see below the link to the documents)

Here is the link to the Prof. Matczak`s blog (Department of Law, Warsaw University), who explains briefly the consequences of the Supreme Court draft of law

Any kind of help will be highly appreciated.

We ask anybody, especially our fellow  judges  from the other countries to:

– spread the news wherever possible – IAJ and all judiciary organizations all over Europe and the World (we cannot reach them ourselves)

– sent the statements to Polish officials esp. the President of Poland to veto all 3 laws about the judiciary – National Judicial Council, System of the common courts and the Supreme Court

– to organize (if possible) the light chains – people standing with candles at the fronts of the Polish Embassies

We really need your help!!”

Therefore, IAJ/EAJ appeals to all of our members to show solidarity to our Polish Colleagues bringing awareness in the respective countries,  through media and general population, to this urgent situation.
