Public events on justice in Latin America

News of the IAJ

Two important events regarding justice in Latin America saw the participation of the President of the IAJ, Mr José Igreja Matos, these recent days.

The IV International Congress of Judges, held on  October 6-7, in Guatemala, with judges from Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama , Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

An independent justice system for the democracies of the countries and the importance of the fight against corruption were the main topics discussed.

A regional seminar on “Challenges and limits of Virtual Justice in Latin America” held between the 5th and 7th of October, attended by experts, judges and human rights defenders from seven Latin American countries .

The purpose of the event was to discuss issues about the virtualization of criminal procedures in the region, with emphasis on custody hearings.
