Platform on Turkey meets in Strasbourg CoE Representatives

The Platform for an Independent Judiciary in Turkey, which was initiated by EAJ and is composed of all four European judges associations had a meeting with parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 10.10.2016.
60 to 70 parliamentarians and the Turkish ambassador attended, and several of them addressed the Platform after the event. Members of the Platform also had a meeting with the General Director of Human Rights and Democracy with the competent advisor of the Secretary General on Turkey, with a represantative of the monitoring committee of the PACE on Turkey, and joined a meeting of the Liberal Club, as well as a short exchange with the competent member of Venice Commission.
On the 11.10.2016 the panel had organised a press conference at the palace of justice in Brussels, where only a few journalists but several colleagues were attending. Most important was the presence of the Netherlands TV, which reported on the press conference and broadcasted interviews of the representative of judges for judges and of the president of the Association of the European Administrative Judges.
EAJ President Christophe Régnard gave a long interview for the leading Belgian newspaper separately. The invitation of the Platform to attend a meeting of the sub-committee on Human Rights of the European Parliament on 12.10.2016 was exercised by the representative of Medel, but only 3 minutes were made available for her intervention. All this meetings followed the requets, which were summarized in a handout, which was distributed and which is published in the IAJ’s web site.
