Global Judicial Integrity Network – Maintaining judicial integrity and ethical standards in practice

News of the IAJ

On 21 June 2021 at 13.00 – 14.00 BST  a virtual webinar on “Maintaining judicial integrity and ethical standards in practice: an IBA study on criminal and disciplinary measures” will be held.

The event is organized by the International Bar Association (IBA) and co-hosted by UNODC and the Global Judicial Integrity Network.

This virtual event will aim to discuss how corruption in the judiciary erodes the principles of judicial independence, impartiality and integrity; infringes on the right to a fair trial; creates obstacles to the effective and efficient administration of justice; and undermines the credibility of the entire judicial institution. The prevention of judicial corruption on the basis of article 11 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct as well as the accountability for judicial misconduct is at the core of the Global Judicial Integrity Network’s mandate. To strengthen their partnership and to continue to promote measures to prevent judicial corruption, IBA and the Global Judicial Integrity Network are jointly hosting this event to discuss the topic and to introduce the key findings of an IBA study which focuses on the processes that are in place to hold judges to account for their conduct, whether misconduct warranting disciplinary action or corruption warranting criminal sanctions.

Agenda of the Event:
