Global Judicial Integrity Network: Virtual Meeting

News of the IAJ

As part of the Global Judicial Integrity Network Series of Webinars, you are invited to the Virtual Meeting on “How to Use Social Media to Bring the Public Closer to the Court”, to be held on 9 February at 15.00 – 16.30 CEST (9.00 in Lima and New York; 16.00 in Nairobi; 18.00 in Islamabad; and 21.00 in Manila).

Judiciaries around the world have been using social media as an institutional mechanism to inform the public about their activities, cases adjudicated and various other issues for a while, but this process has now gained new speed during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

This virtual meeting aims to discuss examples of how some jurisdictions in the United States of America use social media platforms to foster judicial transparency and open justice as well as to generate community outreach by judges and judicial institutions. For this purpose, this webinar will feature a high-level panel of judges and members of the judiciary from the United States of America who will share  their techniques and experiences from a practical point of view, as a sample discussion on the potential for the institutional use of social media by judiciaries.

The panel is composed by:

  • Chief Justice Bridget McCormack, Supreme Court of Michigan, USA
  • Presiding Judge Stephen Dillard, Court of Appeal of Georgia, USA
  • Director Craig Waters, Public Information and Public Affairs Office, Florida Supreme Courts, USA

The Global Judicial Integrity Network will continue to support judiciaries in their efforts to promote open justice and further discussions on examples of how judiciaries can use social media platforms and other information technology tools to bring the public closer to the courts.

The event will be held in English and in a virtual format using the Microsoft Teams platform. Please find attached the user’s guide with instructions on how to use it to connect and interact once the session has started.
